Way of the Bound
23 And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter. 24 And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks. 23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

Judges 1:3
Here we find Simeon spiritually dwelling in the places of death for which the rod and staff of the Lord's reproval are needed indeed. Simeon likewise once went with his brother Levi in their mad quest to smite down Dinah's new-found family as well. Simeon though has come into just a little bit more. The reason why they're found sandwiched in between the two is a tale yet to be told. There's Judah on one side for which these have assumed a guardian role. Remember those pesky Philistines we saw of before. How they liked at times nothing better than to harry God's people. Nothing defeats a point of view more surely than death it seems.
Then again, there's the guardians who are helping them win in the house. If the servants of Levi had fallen and sinned, Simeon is the house in which these are found. We see traces of their latent ability when Simeon held baby Jesus there in the temple, announcing him well. Then again, these keep the rest of his people, even as those servants bound, with all the powers given them of God. Numerically speaking, Simeon ranks right on down by Reuben in pitching beside Judah at the rear of the people. Then again, the role of the power's seen beginning with Joseph which kept Simeon by him for safekeeping contingent upon the brother's soon return. How like the Lord their shepherd these are, whether as prodigal sheep or that of the famed under-shepherds here below.
