Upper Digestion
Esophagus – is a thin muscular tube that connects the throat with the stomach. There's a flap that closes at the upper end preventing food from entering into the airways and there's another flap over the esophagus that only opens when swallowing is done. This is due to the fact that the digestive system from this point down until the stomach is reached is full of acidic substances. The esophagus works to pull food down it through a series of rhythmic contractions. These are known as peristalsis or peristaltic movements in sum. Thankfully the journey down to the stomach is a relatively short one there on the whole otherwise, the person would much resemble a snake where the meal forms an obvious bulge in the whole and takes a long time for digestion to occur. This means for the snake at least that it's going to be tired and slow while there's obviously something it's swallowed that's gotten stuck on the whole. Digestion though doesn't start until the stomach is reached. Sometimes acid can sneak up from the stomach regions causing a burning sensation especially after large meals, acidic foods, or excessive formation. Stress also is known to be a more probable cause for the discomfort there on the whole. This burning is worsened on sudden movements and on lying down flat in a relative position that allows the acid to creep back up towards the mouth thereby bothering other regions of habit. Affected areas include the lungs where the person is more prone to having infections due to excessive inhaled secretions or the throat where hoarseness and pains are just a symptom of a more probable cure. Since warm milk is known to be more basic in substance, the overproduction of acid may be lessened by warm milk application. Some have even tried mixing the warm milk with some herbal remedies targeted towards lessening any symptoms of nausea. Since the food doesn't seem like it is digested as well as it should, that is where the term indigestion gets it's place on the whole. Additionally, the esophagus may be easily injured by the eating of dangerous materials, particularly due to the closeness of the blood vessels to the length of the tract. This means that any foreign substance such as glass that is in food is not a good sign clinically speaking nor is the application of excessive stress or exposure to the overproduction of acid.
