The Unneeded
And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? And if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? Offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? Saith the Lord of hosts.
And now I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? Saith the Lord of hosts.
Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? Neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the Lord of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
There are some things that ought not to be offered to any governor if ever at all. But when it comes to matters of spiritual disorders that are affecting the house, the Lord will not let any alone. We all know how that he came to the poor, the blind, the lame, the helpless, and above all the most unworthy. It was to them, as Isaiah had prophesied, he was sent. As the gospels foretold he came even to heal, to make straight, and to bind up their wounds. Is this not the same God who delights to do good to his children. How often would he not gather his people together as the mother hen does her chicks no matter the condition. Yet how many times do some of us really let him. It's sort of hard to gather things together when they are unwilling, is it not. Yet so God does to some of us, stretching forth his hands all the day long. He is one far greater than all others besides, certainly one greater still than even the governor. Then again our God deserves first rights to be the one to regulate us, our speech, our patterns, down to our behavior. He is the one to say 'this is the way walk you in it' or 'sit here until you have my final opinion.' So often some of us do him that way though, bringing any old thing into the house and acting as though it were worthy of his attention at last. My friends, was he not watching all along as the Father up above who is looking down in love. So then, let us walk in like fashion that we ourselves might be counted worthy. Now allow him to heal and bind up those wounds and so sweep up the house, lest a worse thing by chance come upon us. I can almost see it now as the wedding table is set and the Master is ready. He had come to look over his guests for a while since there was nothing else there to be done as of yet. While he is looking though he sees a man without proper clothes. Nor is he wearing just any old clothes, but perhaps he lacks something a little bit more. See, everyone that was bidden came with their clothes or was provided one for the feast. It didn't say which. But you know when dressed in Christ's righteousness he alone provides sufficient for to take away the disorder. It seems the blood of the Son cleanses us from all unrighteousness indeed. Some of us would do well to trust him that much more for it, if ever, my friends. Let's come back to this man, unsuitably dressed. It seems at such an occasion he is hardly fit to be seen. Could it be he is as one to whom the rest had rejected. Remember the troubles with the guest list before as seen in the text. It seems some had received invitation of which none of these yet were worthy. The lame, the halt, and the blind with them had soon to come in but yet the house still wasn't filled. Then his servants began bringing some out of the hedges so as by force. Now the Master stands surveying his guests. It seems he has begun service for naught wouldn't you say? For where then is the bride which is not to be seen. In their haste, someone must have somehow left out this bride of the Nobleman's Son. I can almost see it now as the minister gathers all in the sanctuary together and so shuts the door. Yet nothing is happening for what of the Son. I can't imagine going to have service with nobody there. Worse yet is actually hosting one when no one is present as is seen next in the text. See how the altar is kindled without any witnesses. Nor are there any who would join in the worship. Seems it's all for nothing does it not. It certainly seems all for nothing does it not, this scene that has been set up. But how many know that with God it's almost never for naught nor yet in vain. Even though you have but one present, with just yourself left to offer the Lord, you can trust that it will be not just like at first. Then again, consider the final condition, that of nothing ever being wanted, wasted, or missing within the house of the Lord. Even the service offered to him will hardly be in vain and nothing ever be wanted or wasted for long. Trust in the Lord with it then and follow him well.
