The Forgetful

11/20/2024

Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?

14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

Malachi 3:13-15

My, it seems the Levites have grown quite forgetful indeed. After seeing all that the Lord has just done, the disorder, as these things so often do, has spread to the people. You could almost say it's proceeding outwards in if you will. That's just what happens though when the leaders have gotten all sorts of messed up. You know, service to God seldom comes without cost. Here it's especially true as the Levites in all their disorder have found. Just think, year after year of seeing the burden of God fall still on the people. After everything, knowing all these have had to endure. You can't tell me that service to God comes without cost. So too though, does it seldom go without it's own reward seen of such. Lest you be thinking some other strange things, the Lord is not just up there with his mighty games of happen and chance. Come on now, let's put the Lord back in his high and lofty position. He's lifted up above all for a reason. That's because he isn't like those of his fold or even his house so I'm told. Mainly that's true because he doesn't happen to sin. When he walked this earth he was sure tested and tried. It's hard to be on an assignment with a mission to do, just as the Levites had found in sharing their duties there with the Lord. I'd say as human or even certainly an angel and most definitely a Levite caught somewhere between the two, the temptation is given to take the blessings there for yourself. So remains the ability to try to take Gods own perfect place in the making of lots of other little gods to control things I'm sure. Once again though, you can't judge too harshly without knowing the issue. In all this, the question remains is God really still good. As such, then too is he able to provide for his people. Sure God has taken a lot of these issues forth from his house when it came in cleansing the temple and his servants therewith. You know though, when the talk of the temple is spoken, it's all about God's house or his dwelling there among men. That's why whenever there's disorder in the house of the Lord, it's almost impossible to get out of the leaders without first cleansing the people. The Lord though has done all things well through much reversal in order. The Levites, the leaders it seems had put themselves first. It's plain to see in the talk of the Lord as one who neither knows not, nor cares, or perhaps has drifted off fast asleep. Much like the disciples left alone in a boat facing the storm, these too needed one greater, one in whom they'd find in all things most faithful. Small wonder then that when Jesus had come along to calm their own personal storm, the Levites had forgotten all about their own former condition. Perhaps it's hard to forget when the boat's filled with water and it's sinking or the mess remains there in the house. When the Lord has come along though and calmed the storm be it big or ever so small, forgetting it's all of your own personal making's easy to do without a storm in sight to be found. It's almost like the Levites had quite forgotten the former things or their own matters when the fire had fallen down from the Lord. After all had been said, the windows of Heaven had certainly opened and the blessings poured forth on his house. The Lord is standing in this position as a Father reminding them of what once had been said. In doing so, it's lost some of the former rebuke. It seems in vain and no profit have now met with the Lord. The people too are feeling some type of way of the house, for the saying has spread abroad in the nation. Small wonder then that Heaven now echoes the matter as well. In the morning then, there comes forth a burden. The proud might be prospering at the moment for now. The wicked also might look like they're doing just fine. Those tempted of God likewise have also been blessed. God regards not any nor is he what you would call a respecter of persons. That means when you bring your stuff to the Lord he has answer to all that come to him yet in prayer. Should the house not be straightened as of the Lord, well, that's another topic for the time after next. There is grief then to be had in the house of the mourning. Our God though has come to his own and he won't hardly let these go unanswered as well. We'll see soon just how he'll do while we're involved in serving the Lord.
