Spiritual Tales of a Sort
When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession;
35 And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, it seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house:
Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house:
37 And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall;
Leviticus 14:34-37
Now I don't know about you but this is sure some heavy stuff right here. Just to think of going into some of the houses found in the land. No sooner do you get there, but it's all nice and pretty and looks as though the walls have been carved from the stone. In fact, you can't find a thing wrong with it at first but of course. Over time though, you'll get up in the morning and find some dew on the walls. Soon it'll even appear as though the house is starting to weep. It might take on a sunken appearance. Let's say over time, it may look as though nature itself has crept through the house. You can't figure out what's wrong in any discernable way, shape, or a form. Still though, the walls reddish in the sight of the setting sun do appear. Perhaps you've started to think something horrible might have happened up in here. Then too, there's colors of green as though the forest has come on back in for a chat. Maybe the walls have even begun to go bump in the night. There might even be a low knocking or tapping sound heard without seeing any reason around for the sound. I mean, I guess a diagnosis of leprosy would be awfully convenient in the absence of anything else. Now that there's no other discernable cause to be found, it'd be nice to blame some thing other than the strange occupancy just recently given. There might even have been some other strange life that once lived there for sure. Though it be Canaanite or not, now it was left for God's people. Still the question remains, how the leprosy got spread around through the land.
38 Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days:
39 And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house;
40 Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city:
41 And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place:
42 And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house.
Leviticus 14:38-42
It's a very curious case of who done it you really may wonder. After all, the Lord had just given them houses and lands for the taking and a new life with everything else. At that point, it only makes sense to call for a priest since you'll either neither and exorcist or a cleansing, I can't tell which. At that point, when the priest has arrived, he'll demand for the house to be left. Then you'll really want to leave all your clothing fresh for the looking, just in case it includes them as well. The possession that leads to the watching of course, just not the priest. Remember before how we'd seen that leprosy can spread through the clothes. In this case, we're really not sure what might have caused it for sure. Either way though, the diagnosis certainly is leprosy suspected. Let's say that the priest confirms the plague to be found in the stones of the wall. He'll have to bring in a few other fellows and break them down just fresh for the taking. Except you won't be able to use them again in any other sort of a creation. These will be broken down into rubble and hauled off for the dust of the earth. It's only right to do things like this since the house had once seen some violence been done. Even now it has spread to the stones, more than likely a silent testament to the lives which once had been left. The Lord though, is still good to his people by giving them shelter and clothes. It's just he doesn't want any to live in this sort of conditions. I mean, if the people didn't praise him these stones most definitely would. Anything to spare them their shouting I guess. My, I can almost hear them now just weeping and wailing and crying aloud. These are a mighty strange sort of conditions. Just to think though of the brand new house perfectly waiting all thoroughly furnished and painted with pitch. Well, it's not really a pitch but more of a mixture being tossed at the wall. That's what you'd call a good plaster of course, it's perfectly good for the soul. Anyhow, enough of the leaving and quite possibly the taking as well. That should do it for now.
And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered;
44 Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house; it is unclean.
45 And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place.
Leviticus 14:43-45
Let's say though that the plague has continued. At this point, it'd be more than enough for a health and safety hazard as much as anything else. On a more serious note, since the plague has entered into the walls, you'll have to tear it all down from the stones to the mortar to the framing itself. Whatever happened in this place whether it was war or quite possibly anything else, was enough to put all the spirits of these on edge. You know, those that had died or otherwise perished and whose blood had been required of their hands. It's enough to give anyone pause or even a stoppage to think. To the Lord though, it's serious business to be sure. Anything involving his people, their life and that of the blood is and has been a concern of his for that of some time. Carrying the things away then just means it's unclean for one of two reasons. The first being that the spirits have settled into the warp of the house. The second being that the seepage of virus is found in the stones. It festers there and spreads becoming a drainage of sorts in the walls of the house. Then too, remaining puts all the people's health there at risk. You already know how leprosy spreads being connected between the people, the place, and whatever personal effects are shoved up within. It's almost like you've gotten attached there for awhile.
46 Moreover he that goeth into the house all the while that it is shut up shall be unclean until the even.
And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes.
48 And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed.
Leviticus 14:46-48
When it comes to a case of the past affecting the future, it's to this scene now that the good Judge has come. He's come and met with all nature and found it has answered him well. Just as the blood of righteous Abel which cried out to him from the ground, so too do these matter and such. The Lord in his mercy won't hardly let them alone of that much you're sure. There's requirements then for the living and for those that have left. Whether you know them as hauntings or strivings or just a continual run-in with nature, these things of the spirit are the heart of the matter. That's why as part of the resident evil everyone entered must wash and bathe and clean everything up. From the clothing on down to whatever else has been owned, it's a good thing to wash all possessions. It goes for everything just without saying. Perhaps you haven't a house that's been haunted just yet. Maybe soon you probably will. The Lord though doesn't mean for it to concern any but you. I think he'll be more than enough for the matter I'm sure. Let's let the settling thereof be found of the Lord. The washing though is to make sure you haven't carried it anywhere else. I mean, it's bad enough that the spirits of the restless have broken out in a place. Worse still it's having cleansed from the Lord. It's not like you'd much rather a pandemic of sorts. Come on now, let the dearly departed sort these things out and those of the perfect to carry on with the living. Until such time then as it comes, we'll leave off the plague in the house of the Lord.
