Found on the Journey
And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.
John 6:17-21
Notice how that the text says they see Jesus, amen. Now they could have seen the wind, they could have seen the storm, they could have seen his absence, they could have seen their lack, they could have seen their need, they could have seen the distance so far thus traveled, they could have seen each other and they could have even seen themselves amen. But here it says they saw Jesus. In all the storm, in the midst of all their trouble, they saw Jesus. Imagine leaving land only to fight against a storm. Yet so these did leaving their Lord behind in a fix. Just prior the people had all assembled together to make him a king it is told. Though he is a king already, is he not, though not among men as of just yet judging by all those just sitting there waiting all gathered around. It is a perspective very much of seeing the Lord in his glory, high up on his thorne in his rightful place. As Scripture is ever so fond of the saying, King of Kings and Lord of Lords so high up there in his glory. Perhaps you have not thought of any just yet. Your situation surrounds you leaving you in a fix. How many of you know the God who walked among men. I mean, personally, as the one to whom all things have now come. The disciples it seems, try as they might, could not get too far from his hand. You know how some of you do going wherever you can to escape his presence as though beneath his notice somehow or so of the just. So too was the situation pressing in with the walls of the problem stretched up so high and so thin. The issue very much truly was with their own point of view. These too had need of seeing of Jesus then for the win. Though is it not for the win I suppose but rather this point of view that also he chose. Should we not also then see Jesus in all our situation and so to look on back upwards to him. Oh to see Jesus like the disciples did then. Notice now how that as with all things everything just points on back upwards to him. Here these are on the boat with no land then in sight, they are tired and hungry having fought the good fight. So too these also have Doubtless been rowing in fear of their life and in need of some clothes. I do not know about you but storms in this region are no laughing matter. The last time one had arose, it claimed the lives of more than it chose. You know, those doctrinally accurate beings this region is ever so fond of then bringing. When was the last time you had seen one of this nature. Perhaps, not since Deuteronomy was written way back when from the garden as merely the whole duty of man thrown in the bargain where love the Lord your God was a must and that much for certain. After that came all the soul, heart, mind, and strength at the end as to whom much had been given to him was it also so rendered. Then there came the whole duty of being good for the soul, of others as to whom it was spoken. But the land though had none of those boundaries, it's sole purpose in creation being to serve the one who was greater. Thus, should the disciples likewise be trapped on the sea as in Lake Galilee with not a shore in sight save the one to whom they had come, well you can best be certain these things all pointed back to their Lord, God, and Master. See, man had only to trust and to do his good will but the land then as with all things went on back to the one it had chose as at the mountain of judgement where it was the only thing standing between them and destruction. Surely Moses stood there too but there was not so much nearly as when he had uttered, one of whom the Lord also had muttered. The sea also knew of it's duty to the maker of these, answering also to him so as then truly. Oh if only then just to catch a glimpse of the Lord in his glory. See the disciples having finally caught sight of the Lord walking on water as though it had close being made up of naught but the ground that he walked on or the soles of the earth. Herein also contained is the witness still of his power and his glory. But even there remains the singular overarching focus of God as though in one singular purpose like David found when the earth closed him in with reeds wrapped round his soul as descended it went down towards the depth of the earth or so also to the pits of then hell. The only thing mattering then such as singular perspective of one who would rather. So it remains then naught but the seeing of Jesus in all of his glory. Is it not also he to whom these would listen, making way immediately for the shore once again. As the theologians are ever so fond of the saying 'I want to see Jesus in all of his power and his glory; I don't care what I have to go through down here I want only to look back upwards to him.' From there on is it not him only and so on all the way to glory. Oh to see Jesus likewise in whatsoever is faced down here on the journey until the day be come and time then arose as with him also so as then chose. As with all things there is ruling and reigning with him.
