Roadtrip Conditions

03/06/2025

Now that the roadtrip is going it looks something sort of like this. I don't know about you, but Abraham was much as a sheep that went astray sometimes himself if you'd remember. Really, there's not anything that remained save for the calling of God from out of the pasture. Well, it was more of a calling into it really from all the wilderness out there of sin and whatever else he'd been living in besides. It starts off as most stories do with a journey and it wasn't just going nowhere but straight on from Ur of the Chaldees unto the promisedest of lands out there somewhere. Though, Abraham and his brother in law made the mistake of thinking that Haran was somewhere found in the middle. I mean to be sure, it probably was in a way between that And the next as one of grace called into his glory. Stopping though right in the middle of nowhere wasn't exactly though where each one was going so far. In fact, it turned out to be quite the walk to remember since Abraham was now nearly in excess of three hundred years. After all this time, it took, God had to pull Abraham out since Haran as we see in the text was just where his parents had come from before these were taken. It's sort of like a migration if you will, a roaming in pattern and where's there to migrate to except for northwards much rather. In order to get to where he was going though, Abraham had to leave every familiar surrounding. He'd know when he got there too when there wasn't anything around him in general. We'll see that more in a bit, that is if you'd like, I'm just not as too certain. In fact, we know it was northwards due to the directions in general. In fact, let's say you didn't believe me half sort and surely. Can you work the directions there in the text?

Went forth

Came unto

Get out

Unto

Went forth

To go into

Passed through

Removed from

Pitched his

There he

Called upon

Abraham journeyed

Going on

still toward

(the south)

Went down

To sojourn

Oh yeah? Do you know where you're at yet? It's confusing, isn't it. This time let's repeat the journey just to see what we'd missed. I think it's the most comforting bit. Then again, I'd be calling on God too if all it felt like was a rather convoluted trip in particular, you know all straight lines from one side to the other or from this side to that with what's been found in the text. That is to say, we're about as lost as we seemed. I'm not sure what that land is over on the other side of the Jordan nor yet where you'll be at upon reaching the sea. Let's just call it a day maybe a turn in to rest. Though it doesn't say where yet does it. I mean, is there a chance of us just sleeping on the side of the road in the middle? Then let's do something different and see what settings it'll come up to then, perhaps a higher order than that as of just yet though in all things with Christ the very beginning and the end.

For this particular one you'll need Haran, Abram, Sarai, Lot, and his wife. Have you got them just yet?

Went forth with them

From Ur of the Chaldees

To go into the land of Canaan

They came unto Haran

And dwelt there

See, it really does matter what you've your heart set on so far. I mean, there's keeping it real, and realer, and then of him most of all. Abram's about to have a run in with his setting and God in particular.

Get thee out of thy country

And from your kindred

And from thy fathers house

Unto a land that I will show you

Alright, how's that for settings in general. Now for this one you'll need

Sarai the wife and Lot the brother's son

And all the substance that they had gathered

And the souls that they had gotten in Haran

I mean, I don't know about you but it sounds like they're packing the whole place up aren't they and taking it to go But the journey isn't over yet and just you wait.

And they went forth

To go into the land of Canaan

And into the land of Canaan they came

And Abram passed through the land

Unto the place of Sichem

Unto the plain of Moreh

And the Canaanite was then in the land.

And he removed

From thence

Unto a mountain

On the east of Bethel

And pitched his tent

Having Bethel on the west and Hai on the east

And there he builded an altar

Unto the Lord

And called

Upon the name of the Lord.

And Abram journeyed

Going on still

Toward the south

And there was a famine

In the land

And Abrahm went

Down into Egypt

To sojourn there

for the famine was grevious in the land.

I mean, it just doesn't get any better than that. Have you figured out which way he went yet real quick? It's almost as the old song says 'down down down to Egypt land' and in case you don't know which direction that one will go in, try it out real quick.

Down

Down

Down

To Egypt laaaannnnddddd

Yeah, we're all just sinners saved by grace and so on until glory. We'll be with Abram in the next segment coming right up, that is if he hasn't completely forgotten all sense of direction.
