Improper Conclusions
And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.
13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks.
17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
First off, let's just have the seeing of Joseph. He's gone to bring food to his brothers again though there's nothing that he's had to take with him for sure. Then too, he goes to where his brothers are supposed to be feeding the flocks only to find an absolutely nothing. He's out there wandering around in the field almost as some would through those that only are there for housing the dead. Certainly, these would've been had there been food insecurities and trouble with obtaining provisions. You know, the life of shepherd going around grazing food from off of the land is as hard as it seems especially with strange bands of people, whether brethren kinsfolks rather, just up and roaming around. Let's say, the land is especially prone to uncertain given that specific location. He'd met a man though and not anyone else which was strange considering there had been a whole town just there in sight. Basically, he doesn't see anyone but this one person, though whether he went looking it's not entirely certain. Whether there's anyone else there is anyone's guess but it's very clear his brothers are not. At this point, the brothers are simply found in switching locations though as you'll soon see Joseph's conclusions ot just wait and see are quite possibly correct in the thinking judging from everything around him rather than just making wild leaps into the next possible error.
18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.
22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
Then it seems his brothers aren't any better in finding solutions. Their solution to not having any flocks around to be seen is immediately to snatch in on Joseph and haul off and take him. I mean, surely getting rid of him would be a lot better than just seeing these dreams. Consider too if you will the tremendous power of unresolved notions. Joseph's dreams were just enough to keep him alive as a person though to his brothers these weren't so lucky then as supposed. When it came on down to it really the only thing they'd remembered was their jealousy and bitterness then as a person. The only one who hadn't truly was Reuben who of all things found his duty to his father had kept him ongoing. Then again there was his scrupulous powers of handling mischief at least as far as these sorts of things were intended. Then it can be considered that death has a way of wiping the slate clean for all of mankind. That's not what I'm saying has happened so then but it's certainly more than probably the next logical action. It's at this point in time that the brothers aren't thinking too clearly either for to bring news to their father of their own brother's danger would've seemed the next possible solution for keeping suspicion on them for nothing when it came time for returning with flocks and herds also as they should've been really. It's important though for you to see this to get what comes next of a sort for if you hadn't gone nosing around the elders at first there'd been nothing to come home to, nothing but a sure, certain danger approaching. In fact, the elders are particularly important at this juncture for as you'll soon see God is working out all things for their good and his glory wherever these be.
